History, B.A. & B.S.

HIST 101  and HIST 102  are prerequisites for all upper-level history courses, and HIST 211  and/or HIST 212  are prerequisites for many U.S. history electives. History majors will take a comprehensive content examination in the History Capstone (HIST 492 ). History majors are not required to have a minor. It is recommended that students planning to continue into the Social Science Alt A program take GEOG 231 , POS 200  or POS 250 , SOC 101  or SOC 102 , and EC 231 .

Students majoring in history must take 39 hours of history courses, including the following:

• HIST 101 - History of World Civilizations I

• or

• HIST 103 - History of World Civilizations for Honors Students (Prehistoric to 1500 A.D.)

•  

• HIST 102 - History of World Civilizations II

• or

• HIST 104 - History of World Civilizations for Honors Students II (1500 A.D. to present)

•  

• HIST 211 - History of the United States
• HIST 212 - History of the United States
• HIST 310 - Introduction to Historical Study
• HIST 491 - Senior Seminar in History
• HIST 492 - History Capstone
• at least two non-U.S. history courses numbered 300 and above (6 credit hours)
•  300-400-level history electives (12 credit hours)
