Communication Studies, B.S.

Communication Studies, B.A. & B.S.


Communication Studies is a core liberal art that provides training in the skills required by today’s employers. Students who complete this program should be equipped to prepare and present well organized and reasoned oral and written presentations in a variety of contexts. Students will be able to identify, analyze, and evaluate multiple perspectives of a given argument and will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the implications of ethics in communication. Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate professionalism and can adapt to a variety of contexts when they graduate from this program. The science of interpersonal and group dynamics, effective communication in business and industry, and the art of persuasion and social influence are emphasized in the major. In addition to the requirements listed below, students must meet all general graduation requirements as listed in the Academic Policies and Information  section in this bulletin. A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for completion.

General Education and General Electives


Students must also complete the General Education Core requirements to include any specific courses listed below. Students must also complete sufficient general electives to reach 120 or more total semester hours.

Bachelor of Science Requirements


Student pursuing a Bachelor of Science must complete an additional seven semester hours of mathematics and/or science course work beyond the general education requirement.
