Sociology, B.A. & B.S.


The University of Montevallo offers a major and a minor in Sociology. Majors may pursue either a B.A. or a B.S. degree. A concentration in criminology is also available. The program includes courses on social problems, social stratification, social change, criminology, environmental issues, gender, race and ethnicity, and additional special topics. Sociology majors are not required to have a minor. 

In addition to the requirements listed below, students must meet all general graduation requirements as listed in the Undergraduate Academic Policies   section in this bulletin. A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for completion.

General Education and General Electives


Students must also complete the General Education Core requirements to include any specific courses listed below. Students must also complete sufficient general electives to reach 120 or more total semester hours.

Bachelor of Science Requirements


Student pursuing a Bachelor of Science must complete an additional seven semester hours of mathematics and/or science course work beyond the general education requirement.
