Computer Science, BA

As a graduation requirement of the major, a student must have both a GPA of 2.0 for all courses in the major, as well as a GPA of 2.0 in all upper-division (300 level or above) mathematics courses. Only the highest grade a student earns in each course will be used in calculating these GPAs.

In addition to the requirements listed below, students must meet all general graduation requirements as listed in the Undergraduate Academic Policies section in this bulletin. A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for completion.

Major Course Requirements (36 hours)

CS 161 - Introduction to Computer Science
CS 170 - Computer Programming I
CS 270 - Computer Programming II
CS 280 - Algorithm Development and Data Structures
CS 305 - Operating Systems
CS 320 - Database Management Systems
CS 400 - Programming Languages
CS 405 - Computer Networks
CS 415 - Software Engineering
CS 485 - Senior Seminar
Complete two of the following electives (at least one of which must be a CS course):

CS Elective (200 level or above)
CS Elective (200 level or above)
ART 250 - Introduction to New Media
INFM 241 - Introduction to Informatics and Computing
MATH 261 - Introduction to Programming and Computer Algebra Systems

General Education and General Electives (24 hours)

Students must also complete the General Education Core requirements to include any specific courses listed below. Students must also complete sufficient general electives to reach 120 or more total semester hours.

Personal Development:
CS 161 - Introduction to Computer Science
Computer Science majors must complete either:
1. A minor in a selected field or
2. A second major

Bachelor of Art Requirements

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Art degree must successfully complete the second-year sequence of a foreign language.
