Mathematics, B.S.

As a graduation requirement of the major, a student must have both a GPA of 2.0 for all courses in the major, as well as a GPA of 2.0 in all upper-division (300 level or above) mathematics courses. Only the highest grade a student earns in each course will be used in calculating these GPAs.

MATH 272 - Calculus III
MATH 310 - Foundations of Mathematics
MATH 390 - Linear Algebra
MATH 470 - Real Analysis
MATH 484 - Directed Reading in Mathematics
MATH 485 - Senior Seminar
8 credit hours in one of the following at the 200 level or above: biology, chemistry, or physics

Required Track Selection

Students must complete either Option 1 (Pure Track) or Option 2 (Applied Track), and the University requirements for a B.S. degree in Mathematics.

Option 1 (Pure Track)

MATH 376 - Complex Analysis
MATH 440 - Abstract Algebra
MATH 480 - Topology
MATH electives: 200-level and above (3 credit hours)
MATH electives: 300-level and above (3 credit hours)

Option 2 (Applied Track)

Choose two of the following:
MATH 330 - Numerical Analysis
MATH 336 - Mathematical Statistics
MATH 350 - Differential Equations
MATH electives: 300-level or above (6 credit hours)
MATH 400-level elective (3 credit hours)
