Department Information

Mission

The primary mission of the Department of Health and Human Sciences is to provide an exceptional foundation of content knowledge and applied skills, and to foster a commitment to life-long learning and professional development for students in the disciplines of Counseling, Exercise and Nutrition Science, and Family and Consumer Sciences. Our courses offer an engaging learning atmosphere that provides students with opportunities to apply theory to practice as they become leaders in their chosen professions. All department programs are committed to the promotion of equity, health, and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. 

Counseling Program

The Counseling Program consists of three different tracks, or emphases. All three tracks are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Exercise Science

The Master of Science in Exercise Science program at the University of Montevallo provides advanced academic training in exercise science with a special emphasis on nutrition and strength and conditioning. Our highly qualified faculty, premier laboratory equipment, small class size, and opportunities for applied practice offer students an exceptional graduate experience. Students who complete their degree are prepared for careers of distinction in the many fields of exercise science and strength and conditioning. Additionally, the program offers courses in support of Applied Instruction, M.Ed. with a concentration in Exercise and Nutrition Science.  

Family and Consumer Sciences

No graduate degree is offered in the program; however, students pursuing the Alternative Master of Education in Secondary Education with a Family and Consumer Science concentration may take FCS courses listed below to fulfill requirements. Students who have taken the courses as an undergraduate may not receive graduate credit for those courses, except for the internships, directed reading, and special topics.
