ED 511 - Advanced Studies in Teaching Reading 3 credit hours This course provides advanced analysis and application of structured literacy instruction and developmentally-appropriate assessment techniques that can be used in K-6 classrooms. Through targeted experiences in the university and elementary classroom settings, candidates will expand their knowledge and ability to apply multisensory teaching strategies to promote phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and word recognition, automatic and fluent reading of text with a focus on comprehension, and professional dispositions and practices. Graduate students will complete additional research and/or teaching requirements to demonstrate advanced levels of academic and professional competency. Successful completion of Methods Block Coursework required. Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Methods Block Coursework Requried. (Cross-listed with ED 411).
