ART 220 - Introduction to Art History 3 credit hours - This course builds upon ART 120: Art History Foundations and encourages students to hone skills needed to critically analyze artworks. Students will encounter artworks created by a range of cultures across time and of diverse geographical origins. Primary sources, art historical texts, and art criticism will ground students’ knowledge of artworks within historical, social, and physical contexts. The course introduces students to methods of art history, which may include but are not limited to formal analysis, connoisseurship, historiography, iconography, social history, gender studies, and environmental humanities approaches. Prerequisite(s): ART 120 .
