P-12 Music Education (Instrumental or Vocal), Professional Educators, M.Ed.

Program Admission Requirements:

A completed application available at www.montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying/
One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
2.75 undergraduate graduating GPA or 3.0 Master’s degree graduating GPA from a regionally accredited college or university
Qualifying test score on the MAT or GRE
Must hold a valid Alabama Class B certificate in the same teaching field in which Class A certification is taught.

Retention and Completion Requirements

Maintain a 3.25 program GPA
Completed all required course work with a grade of “C” or higher
Completed SPED 407/507 or equivalent, if not previously completed

Students who have not completed the special education requirements are required to take a general survey course SPED 507 , which will make the program 33 credit hours. If completed for prior level certification, another approved diversity course is required.

Teaching Field Courses

Students must take 12 total graduate (500-level) hours in their teaching field. Undergraduate courses with equivalent content cannot be repeated for graduate credit.

These courses are taught during alternating years in summer terms only.
