Students pursuing the B.S. degree must complete all undergraduate courses listed here with the exception of CSD 385 , CSD 401 , CSD 498 , and SPED 407  which are optional electives. Each student in the Department must earn a grade of C or better in all departmental courses. This policy applies to all CSD courses. If a grade below C is received in a required CSD course, the course must be repeated. Prerequisite courses must be passed with a C or better before subsequent courses may be taken. (For example, SLP majors must make a C or better in CSD 411-Introduction to Audiology  before they can take CSD 471-Aural Rehabilitation . Other prerequisite courses are noted in the course listings.

In addition to the requirements listed below, students must meet all general graduation requirements as listed in the Undergraduate Academic Policies  section in this Bulletin. A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for completion.

Admission to the Junior Class

Admission to the junior class in the CSD Department is required for a student to continue toward a B.S. degree in SLP. Following are the requirements for admission to the CSD junior class:

  • complete the required 60 hours for junior status;
  • attain an overall GPA of 2.75 or better on all work attempted;
  • complete specified courses in Speech-Language Pathology (CSD 101 , 253 , and 291 ) with a grade of C or better in each course;
  • demonstrate appropriate social and behavioral attributes as identified in the CSD Junior Class policy documents: and
  • once admitted, maintain an overall GPA of 2.75 or better and maintain appropriate social and behavioral attributes.

For cases in which a student’s graduation might be delayed due to limited course offerings, the department chair may substitute CSD 380  for one of the three required for admissions to the junior class.

Note: CSD courses are only available to students who are declared SLP majors. However, CSD 101  is available to students who may be considering a major in Speech-Language Pathology and are seeking more information about the profession. CSD 385  and CSD 401  are also available to students outside the major.

Admission for Second Bachelor

Applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology must have a combined 3.0 overall GPA in coursework attempted at all institutions attended. With these credentials, these applicants need not apply to the junior class. However, in order to remain in the major, these students must meet the following conditions:

  • maintain a 3.0 GPA on all coursework
  • maintain appropriate social and behavioral attributes as identified in the CSD second bachelor’s student policy
