Temporary Special Education Certificate

The Temporary Special Education Certificate (TSEC) at the University of Montevallo is for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher and can be certified to teach special education in grades 6-12. Courses taken to obtain the TSEC include a survey of special education, collaboration/consultation, methods and assessment, special education law and behavior analysis/modification. A completed TSEC leads to a Class B teacher certification to teach secondary collaborative special education.

All TSEC coursework must be completed at the same university with the Alabama State Department of Education approved grade.

• Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2.75 GPA) or graduate degree (minimum 3.0 GPA) from a regionally accredited college/university.
