Game Studies and Design Minor

GSD Required Courses

Must complete 15 total hours from the following:

• Choose one History:
  (History classes alternate every fall)

• GSD 210 - History of Board and Card Games
• GSD 212 - History of Video Games

• Choose one Survey:
  (Survey classes alternate every spring)

• GSD 225 - Survey of Modern Board and Card Games
• GSD 227 - Survey of Video Games

•  

• GSD 301 - Game Design Workshop I

• This course is offered in the fall with a pre-req of another GSD class.

• GSD 302 - Game Design Workshop II

• This course if offered in the spring with a pre-req of GSD 301.

• MATH 202 - Mathematics of Games

• This course is usually offered once every three semesters. Pre-req of MATH 144 or higher. 

GSD Elective Courses

• Student wishing to complete the minor must select at least one course from the following.

 Choose any 3 hours from the following:

• Second History GSD course
  Second Survey GSD course

• GSD 295 - Special Topics (varied topics may be repeated)
• GSD 395 - Special Topics (varied topics may be repeated)

• Sample GSD special topics classes include:

  -Tabletop RPG
  -Mathematics: Mathematics of Chess
  -Philosophy: Aesthetics and Ethics of Games

• GSD 495 - Special Topics (can be combined with Undergraduate Research)

• UR is available on an individual basis and can be taken for 1-3 credit hours. Please see Dr. Martin.
