Elementary Education, Professional Educators, M.Ed.

The Professional Educator Master’s is for those who have earned a Class B certification and desire advanced certification in the same area. The Professional Educator Master’s program leads to a Class A professional educator certification.

Program Admission Requirements:

A completed application at www.montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying/
One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
2.75 undergraduate graduating GPA or 3.0 master’s degree graduating GPA from a regionally accredited college or university
A valid Alabama Class B certificate in the same teaching field in which Class A certification is sought
Two professional letters of recommendation

Retention and Completion Requirements

Maintain a 3.25 program GPA
Complete all required coursework with a grade of “C” or higher
Complete SPED 407/507 or equivalent, if not previously completed

ED 500 - Standards-Based Instruction for Diverse Populations
ED 503 - Public and Community Resources
ED 504 - Innovative Instructional Design
EDF 526 - Assessment and Data Analysis for Program Improvement
EDF 540 - Applied Research
Technology (3 credit hours) Select one of the following technology courses:
ED 529 - Survey of Instructional Technology for Engaged Learning
ED 570 - Emerging Topics in Technology (or an equivalent approved technology course)
SPED 507 - Introduction to Special Education (required if not previously completed)
A special education course may not be older than 10 years unless the candidate has teaching experience within the last 5 years or has used the course for a prior level of certification.

Teaching Field (12 credit hours)

Students must take 12 total graduate (500-level) hours in their teaching field.
