Students may pursue an alternative Master of Education in P-12 with a concentration in Art. Students have the option of attending online or on-campus and must choose their modality at admission. Candidates employed as teachers in a K-12 school must teach the overwhelming majority of their students in their area of proposed certification. Candidates choosing the online option who are not employed as teachers must plan to complete the in-person observation and internship requirements for the degree program. If a modality change is necessary while the student pursues their degree, they should contact the Office of Graduate Studies.
Program Admission Requirements:
Admission to the Teacher Education Program occurs when a candidate is unconditionally admitted to the University’s graduate program. The following criteria must be completed to achieve both unconditional admission to the University, as well as admission to the Teacher Education Program.
- A completed application at www.montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying/
- One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended

Meets one of the following criteria related to GPA:

Bachelor’s degree with an overall GPA of at least 2.75
-
Bachelor’s degree with an overall GPA between 2.0 - 2.74 AND an accompanying alternative Praxis score (please see testing information linked below)

Master’s degree or higher with an overall GPA of at least 3.0

Satisfactory score(s) on Praxis examination(s). View the linked test codes and required scores for admission to graduate studies and the Teacher Education Program

Retention and Completion Requirements
- Maintain a 3.25 program GPA
- Complete all required coursework with a grade of “C” or higher
- Complete SPED 407/507 or equivalent, if not previously completed

Students must take 12 total graduate (500 level) hours in their teaching field. Undergraduate courses with equivalent content cannot be repeated for graduate credit. Undergraduate courses with equivalent content cannot be repeated for graduate credit. |
