The Master of Science in Nutrition Science/Coordinated Program in Dietetics is designed for students pursuing a career as a food and nutrition expert, including nutrition and dietetics healthcare professionals.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) are an integral part of the healthcare team that encourages the prevention and treatment of disease through expert nutrition and food guidance.
Students engage in meaningful opportunities to attain the knowledge, skills, and competencies required by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics (ACEND) to be eligible to sit for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) exam (www.cdrnet.org) upon graduation.
Admission
The application for the Master of Science in Nutrition and Coordinated Dietetics Program requires the following:
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended,
- Complete all prerequisite academic requirements with a grade of “B” or above
- An overall undergraduate GPA from a regionally accredited college or university of at least 2.75,
- Resume,
- Two letters of reference,
- 1-2 page letter of intent that includes plans for the future and why the applicant is a good fit for the MS in Nutrition Science,
- Background check,
- Updated blue immunization card,
- Negative TB skin test,
- Negative standard 10-panel drug screen,
- Proof of ServSafe certification,
- Proof of health insurance,
- Proof of automobile insurance
Retention/Completion
Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 or higher to remain in good standing in the program and to graduate, and well as a Verification Statement to sit for the RD exam..
The minimum passing grade for supervised practice courses in the nutrition program is a “B.” A course may be repeated only one time if a grade lower than a “B” is made, and the hours will be counted as hours attempted. Courses may be repeated only at UM.
Students must maintain compliance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Professional Code of Ethics and UM policies.
