Updated State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) statement for the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences .

Due to varying requirements, UM is unable to confirm the RN licensure requirements of other states, territories, or foreign entities. If you intend to pursue such credentialing in a state other than Alabama or elsewhere, we advise you  to contact the applicable credentialing authority to familiarize yourself with its specific requirements and determine if our program meets its eligibility criteria. You are welcome to contact the College of Health Professions Deans office with questions in this regard, and we will do our best to help you with career planning.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Communication Science and Disorders is to establish and provide distinctive academic programs for students in Speech-Language Pathology, collaborations with community partners, and service to individuals with communication, voice, and swallowing disorders across the life span.

The department is committed to preparing students to become dedicated, competent clinical leaders in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. The curriculum cultivates global and professional awareness and emphasizes the problem-solving and critical thinking skills necessary to become strong professionals capable of serving a clinically, racially, and culturally diverse client population.

Updated the description of Spanish Minor  and French Minor  to the following.

The Spanish/French minor requires completion of 12 credit hours. Note that this required prereq for this minor is completion of the second-year sequence of SPN/FRN or equivelent.
