DFM 205 - Screenwriting I 3 credit hours - This course is designed to introduce elements of screenwriting that include: script format, theme, plot, character, dialogue, and narrative structure, especially within the context writing for cinema. Emphasis will be placed on dissecting successful characterization and world building for the reality of the characters, along with cultivating a critical eye as a storyteller. We will learn how to brainstorm/creatively “create” ideas intrinsic to each screenwriter’s unique voice. Additionally, we will focus on the professional distillation process of ideas by creating loglines, a synopsis, and outlining for short & feature films.
