UM 101 - First Year Seminar 3 credit hour - UM 101 is required of all first-year students and transfer students who have earned 24 credit hours or less and who haven’t taken an equivalent First-Year Seminar at the institution from which they are transferring.
UM 101 is designed to be an extended orientation to the University of Montevallo and an introduction to a liberal arts education. This course will help students find and utilize campus resources, develop foundational academic skills, engage in critical and creative reasoning, practice written and oral communication skills, and identify the essential values of the liberal arts experience by relating them to their personal interests, academic disciplines, and career opportunities. The grade for UM 101 is reported as A, B, C, or NC (no credit).
