Program Admission Requirements
- A completed application available at www.montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying/
- One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
- 2.75 undergraduate graduating GPA or 3.0 Master’s degree graduating GPA from a regionally accredited college or university
- Core Academic Skills for Educators (test code: 5751). Minimum Score Requirements:
- 156 on Reading (5712)
- 150 on Math (5732)
- 162 on Writing (5722)
Required Prerequisite Courses:
- SPED 300 ASL II and SPED 307 ASL III Or demonstrated proficiency in ASL as evidenced by a score of intermediate plus or higher on the SCPI
- SPED 398 Deaf Culture
- CSD 411 Introduction to Audiology or SPED 320 Developing Auditory/Oral Communication with Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing
TEP Admission
- 3.25 minimum GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
- Elementary Education Multiple Subjects (Praxis II test code: 5001). Minimum Score Requirements:
- 157 on Reading/Language Arts (5002)
- 157 on Mathematics (5003)
- 158 on Science (5005)
- 154 on Social Science (5004)
- Official score report must be received by TES prior to completion of 5 courses
- 153 minimum score requirement Special Education (Praxis II test code: 5354)
- Fingerprinting and Background Clearance through Cogent Systems must be successfully completed prior to lab placements
- All prerequisite coursework must be completed with a minimum grade of “C”
- Teacher Education Program Interview
- Minimum Score Requirement = 22 points (out of 32 possible points)
- Must be successfully completed to gain admission to TEP
- Interviews are conducted during fall, spring, and summer semesters
TEP Retention
- Maintain minimum 3.25 GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
- All coursework completed with a minimum grade of “C”. Students will be allowed one repeat to improve a course grade lower than a “C”.
- Satisfactory disposition ratings by education faculty with fewer than three incident reports
Progression to Internship
- Admissions to TEP
- Maintain minimum 3.25 GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
- Completion of all prerequisite course work.
- Negative TB test within 12 months and fingerprint/background clearance.
- Satisfactory completion of all program expectations, including field experiences, key assessments, and disposition assessments
- Submitted Application for Internship by the posted deadline
Program Completion
- 3.25 graduating GPA with a final grade of “C” or better in all Professional Studies and Teaching Field courses
- Successful completion (final grade of C or better) of the following courses:
- EDI 590 Internship in P-12 Teaching
- EDI 599: Intern Certification Preparation
- Satisfactory internship evaluations
- Completed SPED 407/507 or equivalent, if not previously completed
- edTPA Performance Portfolio Tasks (1, 2 and 3)
