Instructional Technology, Ed.S.

The educational specialist program in Instructional Technology is for those in education-related fields who wish to learn more about the integration of instructional technology to enhance leadership, teaching, and training in their field. The degree program is open to professionals in any education-related field with an aptitude for technology use and integration (P-16 educational environments as well as those in business training fields).

Program Admission Requirements:

  • A completed application and application fee available at www.montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying/
  • 3.00 graduating GPA in a Master’s degree program from a regionally accredited college or university
  • One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
  • Electronic Portfolio demonstrating technical proficiency and expertise
  • Complete a short Skype interview
  • Have a minimum of one year full-time professional experience in a P-12, higher education, or similar setting and proof of current employment in the related professional field

or

  • At least three years of full-time professional educational training/experience in a P-12, higher education, or similar setting
  • EXP form documenting one-year full-time professional experience in a P-12, higher education, or similar setting and proof of current employment in the related professional field or at least three years of full-time educational training/experience in a P-12, higher education, or similar setting

Applications should be sent to the University by April 15 for summer admission, July 15 for fall admission, and November 15 for spring admission. Please note: These dates reflect priority deadlines. Applicants may submit materials after the deadline with the understanding that submitting materials after the priority deadline does not guarantee consideration for admission for the following term. UM undergraduates applying for these programs are not required to submit official transcripts.

Retention and Completion Requirements for AA/Ed.S.

  • Maintain a minimum 3.25 program GPA and a minimum grade of “C” on all coursework
  • Successful electronic portfolio review

  • ED 629 - Survey of Instructional Technology Leadership
  • ED 601 - Instructional Design and Development
  • ED 602 - Technology Training, Coaching, and Mentoring
  • ED 610 - Managing Distance Education and eLearning Systems
  • ED 621 - Instructional Technology Leadership and Management
  • EDL 691 - Research and Planning for School Improvement
  • EDL 677 - Instructional Technology Leadership in Educational Contexts
  • ED 693 - IT Research and Practicum
  • Choose two 600-level advisor approved electives (6 hours).
