Program Admission Requirements:

  • A completed application available at www.montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying/
  • One official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
  • 2.75 undergraduate graduating GPA or 3.0 Master’s degree graduating GPA
  • Core Academic Skills for Educators (test code: 5751). Minimum Score Requirements:
    • 156 on Reading (5712)
    • 150 on Math (5732)
    • 162 on Writing (5722)
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university

TEP Admission

  • 3.25 minimum GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
  • Elementary Education Multiple Subjects (test code: 5001). Minimum Score Requirements:
    • 157 on Reading/Language Arts (5002). Effective 9/1/18, a score of 157 will be required
    • 157 on Mathematics (5003). Effective 9/1/18, score of 157 required
    • 158 on Science (5005). Effective 9/1/18, score of 158 required
    • 154 on Social Science (5004). Effective 9/1/18, score of 154 required
    • Official score report must be received by TES prior to completion of 5 courses
  • Fingerprinting and Background Clearance through Cogent Systems must be successfully completed prior to lab placements
  • All prerequisite coursework completed with a minimum grade of “C”
  • Teacher Education Program Interview
    • Minimum Score Requirement = 22 points (out of 32 possible points)
    • Must be successfully completed to gain admission to TEP
    • Interviews are conducted during fall, spring, and summer semesters

TEP Retention

  • Maintain minimum 3.25 GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
  • All coursework completed with a minimum grade of “C”. Students will be allowed one repeat to improve a course grade lower than a “C”.
  • Fewer than three incident reports

Progression to Internship

  • Admissions to TEP
  • Completion of all prerequisite coursework
  • Teaching Reading (test code: 5204)
    • 155 Minimum Score Requirement. Effective 9/1/18, a score of 159 will be required.
    • Official score report must be received by TES prior to internship semester
  • Special Education Praxis (test code: 5354)
    • 153 Minimum Score Requirement.
    • Official score report must be received by TES prior to internship semester.   
  • Satisfactory completion of all program expectations, including field experiences, key assessments, and disposition assessments
  • Submitted application for internship by the posted deadline

Program Completion

  • 3.25 graduating GPA with a final grade of C or better in all Professional Studies and Teaching Field courses
  • Successful completion (final grade of C or better) of the following courses:
    • EDI 560, 561 or 563: Internship in Collaborative Education
    • EDI 599: Intern Certification Preparation
  • Satisfactory internship evaluations
  • edTPA Performance Portfolio Tasks (1, 2 and 3)
