Secondary Education, Professional Educators, M.Ed.

Students may pursue a Professional Educators Master’s of Education in Secondary Education with a Biology, English/Language Arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, General Science, History, Mathematics, or Social Science concentration.

An official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
2.75 undergraduate graduating GPA or 3.0 Master’s degree graduating GPA from a regionally accredited college or university
A valid Alabama Class B certificate in the same teaching field in which Class A certification is sought

Retention and Completion Requirements

Maintain a 3.25 program GPA
Complete all required course work with a grade of C or higher
Complete SPED 407/507 or equivalent if not previously completed

Note: Students who have not completed the special education requirement are required to take a general survey course (SPED 507 ), which results in program completion with 33 credit hours.
Technology (3 credit hours) Select one of the following technology courses:
ED 529 - Survey of Instructional Technology for Engaged Learning
ED 570 - Selected Topics in Technology (or an equivalent approved technology course)

Teaching Field (12 credit hours)

Students must take 12 total graduate (500 level) hours in their teaching field. Comprehensive areas (English/Language Arts, General Science, and General Social Science) must include at least one course in two areas of the broader field. Undergraduate courses with equivalent content cannot be repeated for graduate credit.
