Students may pursue a Professional Educators Master’s of Education in Secondary Education with a Biology, English/Language Arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, General Science, History, Mathematics, or Social Science concentration.
Program Admission Requirements:
- Completed application available at montevallo.edu/admissions-aid/applying
- An official transcript from each institution of higher education attended
- 2.75 undergraduate graduating GPA or 3.0 Master’s degree graduating GPA from a regionally accredited college or university
- A valid Alabama Class B certificate in the same teaching field in which Class A certification is sought
Retention and Completion Requirements
- Maintain a 3.25 program GPA
- Complete all required course work with a grade of C or higher
- Complete SPED 407/507 or equivalent if not previously completed

Curriculum Outline (18-21 credit hours)
Teaching Field (12 credit hours)
Students must take 12 total graduate (500 level) hours in their teaching field. Comprehensive areas (English/Language Arts, General Science, and General Social Science) must include at least one course in two areas of the broader field. Undergraduate courses with equivalent content cannot be repeated for graduate credit.
