Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (AFROTC) is available to Montevallo students through a cooperative program with Samford University. Students enrolling in Air Force ROTC courses will attend classes on the Samford University campus. Reliable personal transportation will be needed by the student. Commute times can vary anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes.
AFROTC provides college students the opportunity to commission as an officer in the United States Air Force or Space Force upon graduation from college. The AFROTC program is an excellent way to enjoy the college experience and prepare to serve your country at the same time.
Registering for AFROTC
Interested students are encouraged to contact the Detachment at Samford University to discuss the program before registering. Once you have talked to an AFROTC Cadre member you will then proceed to registration. Freshmen will register for AFRC 101 - Heritage and Values 1 and AFRC 101L , the corresponding Leadership Lab. Sophomores will register for AFRC 201 - Team and Leadership Fundamentals as well as AFRC 201L .
Leadership Lab, for all levels, is held on Fridays from 0600 to 0830 at Samford University.

Minor
UM students active in the AFROTC program may declare the Aerospace Studies Minor .
