INFM 171 - Social Informatics 3 credit hours Introduction to key social research perspectives and literature on the use of information and communication technologies. Covers current topics such as information ethics, relevant legal frameworks, popular and controversial uses of technology e.g. peer-to-peer file sharing, digital divides, etc. Introductory programming concepts such as variables and logic flow will be covered giving students an appreciation of the complexity involved in the development of the digital tools they use every day.
