Environmental Studies, B.A. & B.S.
Environmental Studies at the University of Montevallo is an interdisciplinary academic program that incorporates perspectives from the social and natural sciences, the arts and humanities, and business. The purpose of the program is to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they will need as citizens and as members of the workforce to make informed decisions with respect to ecological issues. The overarching objective is to help students learn to balance present needs with those of future generations while promoting environmental justice and biological sustainability. A minor in Environmental Studies is also offered. In addition to the requirements listed below, students must meet all general graduation requirements as listed in the Academic Programs and Policies section in this bulletin. A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for completion.
Major Requirements
Students majoring in Enviornmental Science must complete the following:
Approved ES Electives
Additionally, students must complete 12 hours from the approved electives listed below:
General Education and General Electives
Students must also complete the General Education Core requirements to include any specific courses listed below. Students must also complete sufficient general electives to reach 120 or more total semester hours.
Bachelor of Science Requirements
Student pursuing a Bachelor of Science must complete an additional seven semester hours of mathematics and/or science course work beyond the general education requirement.
