Secondary Education, Alternative, M.Ed.

Students may pursue an alternative Master’s of Education in Secondary Education with a concentration in Biology, Business-Marketing, English/Language Arts, Family and Consumer Sciences, Foreign Language-Spanish, General Science, History, Mathematics, or Social Sciences.
Program Admission Requirements:
TEP Retention
- Maintain minimum 3.25 GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
- All coursework completed with a minimum grade of “C.” Students will be allowed one repeat to improve a course grade lower than a “C.”
- Satisfactory disposition ratings by education faculty with fewer than three incident reports
Progression to Internship
- Maintain minimum 3.25 GPA (Teaching Field, Professional Studies, and UM Overall)
- Completion of all prerequisite course work
- Satisfactory completion of all program expectations, including field experiences, key assessments, and disposition assessments
- Submitted Application for Internship by the posted deadline
Program Completion
- 3.25 graduating GPA with a final grade of “C” or better in all Professional Studies and Teaching Field courses
- Successful completion (final grade of C or better) of the following courses:
- EDI 540 : Internship in High School Teaching
- EDI 599 : Intern Certification Preparation
- Satisfactory intern evaluations
- Completed SPED 407/507 or equivalent, if not previously completed
- edTPA Performance Portfolio Tasks (1, 2, and 3)

Curriculum Outline (36 hours)
Teaching Field
Students must take 12 total graduate (500-level) hours in their teaching field. Comprehensive areas (English/Language Arts, General Science, General Social Science) must include at least one course in two areas of the broader field. Undergraduate courses with equivalent content cannot be repeated for graduate credit.
