GB 355 - Equity and Ethics in Sport


3 credit hours - This Equity and Ethics in Sport course gives students the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to develop ethical strategies and leadership skills in the arena of sport. Focus will be on the fundamentals of ethics and leadership including the ability to think logically and make morally sound decisions; the conflict between sportsmanship and gamesmanship; the challenges facing sport leaders including (but not limited to) violence, competitive advantages, academics and the commercialization of sport. The class will also explore the history of sport equity issues, specifically dealing with race and gender, as well as the challenges of today’s sport world. The class will discuss the pillars of building an ethical and equitable team capable of competing in the sport arena and in life. Junior standing.
