Music, Choral Education, B.M.

Those in the general/choral area must also select either voice, guitar or piano as a primary performance area, and must follow it consistently throughout the degree program.  

 

A minimum grade of C is required for all music courses.  Students may attempt a course no more than twice to earn a minimum final grade of a C. 

Applied Studies


Primary Study


Complete one Applied Primary Study - 7 semesters private vocal, guitar or piano study (admission by audition only) (10-14 credit hours):

Ensemble


7 semesters choral or instrumental ensemble (choose based on Primary) (7 credit hours)
1 semester Chamber Ensemble (choose based on Primary) (1 credit hour)

Secondary


Complete one Secondary Instrument Study - 4 semesters private secondary vocal or piano study. Primary Guitar must complete both (8 credit hours):

 

For Primary Piano and Primary Guitar


Complete one Lab Study (1-4 credit hours)


General Education


A minimum grade of C in all General Education courses will be required for admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP). The General Education core curriculum, described in the Undergraduate Academic Policies  section of this Bulletin, applies to all students pursuing the B.M. in Music-Choral Education with the following exceptions. Students must also complete sufficient general electives to reach 130-131 or more total semester hours.

  • Humanities & Fine Arts: MUS 211  and MUS 342  
  • Natural Sciences & Mathematics: Biology is required for Music Education majors
  • History, Social & Behavioral Sciences: PSYC 201 ; EC 231  or EC 232  
  • Personal Development: MUS 228
